5 Days from Marrakech: A Private Route with Two Merzouga Nights

Plan a private 5-day Marrakech desert trip with two nights in Merzouga, a full Sahara day and an Ouarzazate stop to break up the return drive.

Merzouga Desert Package6 min read
At a glanceA five-day Marrakech return route can include Dades, two nights in Merzouga and a final overnight in Ouarzazate. You reach the desert on Day 2, enjoy a full discovery day on Day 3 and split the return across Days 4 and 5. This is a suggested private route; the exact hotels, inclusions and price are confirmed in your quotation.

The main advantage of five days is not another attraction. It is the chance to spend a full day in Merzouga and avoid leaving the camp straight into a long direct drive back to Marrakech. The outline below gives each stage a clear purpose: a scenic journey out, two desert nights, and a return with an overnight pause. It is designed for travelers who want the Sahara to feel like a stay rather than a brief stop between road days.

Five touring days contain four nights. Your Marrakech accommodation before and after the tour is a separate detail unless included explicitly. Avoid a tight flight connection on the final day; agree the drop-off time before reserving flights.

Day 1: Marrakech to the Dades Valley

Start at about 08:00 from your Marrakech accommodation. Cross the High Atlas via Tizi n'Tichka, with suitable breaks rather than constant short stops. Continue to Ait Ben Haddou, then travel through the Ouarzazate region toward the Dades Valley.

This is a substantial travel day even with a private vehicle. Decide which visits matter and leave room for lunch and the final stretch. If you prefer to visit Ait Ben Haddou on the return, tell us when planning the route so the first day can be adjusted. The confirmed program should name the overnight accommodation and any included meal.

Day 2: Todra Gorge and your first desert evening

After breakfast, continue toward Todra Gorge and then the Merzouga region. The priority is arriving with enough daylight for the agreed desert program. The team coordinates parking or luggage before the camel ride or an arranged 4x4 alternative.

The standard two-night Merzouga package includes a camel experience, a 4x4 sunset outing, dinner and the first night in your ensuite tent. Sunset and meeting times vary with the season, so the road day should serve the camp arrival rather than adding stops until the evening is lost.

Day 3: A full day around Merzouga

The second night creates the day that shorter itineraries often miss. Our private discovery circuit can include local landscapes, a nomad-family visit, M'Fis, Khamlia, the oasis and viewpoints. Dayet Srij depends on conditions, and the 4x4 Museum depends on availability; neither should be treated as a guaranteed wildlife or opening-time promise.

The standard two-night program includes Madfouna lunch, a one-hour guided quad outing and sandboarding, followed by dinner and another camp night. Tell us if you want a quieter or gentler version, or would rather skip a stop or activity. Confirm the agreed changes in the final program.

Days 4 and 5: A return journey with an overnight pause

Enjoy sunrise if you wish, then breakfast and the transfer back to Merzouga. Travel toward Ouarzazate for your final overnight. The precise return route and stops should be agreed around road conditions, your interests and the time available. A Draa Valley or Agdez route is an option to discuss, rather than an automatic extra detour.

On Day 5, continue through the High Atlas to Marrakech. If Ait Ben Haddou was left for the return, its visit can be planned into this day. The Ouarzazate overnight spreads the return driving across two days, but mountain roads and stops still affect the final arrival time.

What to confirm in the five-day quotation

The camp package and the complete road tour are not the same purchase. Ask for a written list covering the private vehicle and driver, both road overnights, two camp nights, the exact bed setup, meals by day, activities, local guides or entrance fees, and the final drop-off.

Check drinks, extra lunches, personal expenses and optional arrangements separately. Do not assume every item is included because the trip is described as luxury. Send dates, traveler count, children's ages, room preferences and any flight constraints. We will check accommodation availability and prepare a complete price and booking terms.

If you only want the desert stay and will organize the road journey yourself, you can book the Merzouga package separately. See our Marrakech transport options for help combining the two.

Frequently asked questions

How many camp nights are in this five-day route?

Two, normally on the second and third nights of the trip. The other overnights are in the Dades and Ouarzazate areas, giving four nights across five touring days.

Is this the same as the two-night Merzouga package?

No. The Merzouga package covers the desert stay and its listed activities. A complete five-day route also needs road transport and accommodation along the way, which must be quoted explicitly.

Can we finish in Fes instead of Marrakech?

A different end city changes the route. Tell us your onward plans and we can prepare a separate program instead of assuming the Marrakech-return outline fits.

Can we take a flight from Marrakech on Day 5?

Only after agreeing a realistic arrival and airport check-in margin. Road conditions and sightseeing affect timing, so a tight flight connection is unsuitable for this outline.
